Montreal Initiative for Consciousness

science (MONIC)

At MONIC, we strive for a more conscious consciousness community, with more information exchange and integration within the field, and for more synergy between world regions and research hubs.

MONIC is an association promoting communication within the field of Consciousness Science and beyond. It offers workshops to introduce consciousness science to scientists from other fields and diverse disciplines and backgrounds (e.g., neuroscience, psychology, AI, physics and philosophy). This Montreal-based association aims to have an impact on a global scale, with many collaborators abroad. Check out our website!

There are three main pillars to the association:

  1. Interaction: communication among and beyond consciousness researchers, promoting exchange within and across fields. To empower specialists from other fields to contribute to consciousness science.
  2. Popularization: communication to a broader audience. To become a mediator between consciousness science and society.
  3. Epistemology: investigating common biases undermining the field and communicating on them. To properly investigate the importance of language and definitions of consciousness-

Together with my collaborator Margot Steijger, we put together a first seminar on the current state-of-the-art in consciousness science. We are currently intervening in labs and our first edition at Champalimaud Institute for the Unknown (Lisbon) was a great success.

Together with my laboratory, we are organizing the third edition of the Canadian Consciousness Research Symposium, check it out!

If you are interested in having us giving a workshop in your lab or in supporting the association, please contact me!
